57% OF WORKERS WILLING TO LEARN AI TO STAY COMPETITIVE
BCG's report analyzes the work priorities of global talent in 2024, based on a survey of 150,000 people in 188 countries. The report highlights the importance of understanding and meeting the needs of workers in the context of GenAI technology changing the way work is done. Employers need to develop training programs and human resources strategies to attract and retain talent in times of change.
1. Use of GenAI:
- 86% of survey respondents are aware of GenAI and more than 50% have used it at least once. About 39% use GenAI regularly.
- Use GenAI mainly for research, administrative work and translation. Regular users of GenAI are primarily in the digital and IT sectors.
2. Impact of GenAI:
- 60% of workers predict they will need to upskill to stay competitive due to the impact of GenAI.
- Workers in emerging economies are more likely to use GenAI and are more aware of its impact on their jobs.
3. Plans to stay competitive:
- 57% of workers are willing to reskill to stay competitive. Those with low or medium education levels and younger workers are more flexible in reskilling.
- Factors driving willingness to reskill include knowledge of the skills needed, availability of learning programs, and employer support.
The report forecasts the impact of technology on the workforce, encourages employers to shift from traditional training to strategic upskilling, and promotes the adoption of GenAI in the workplace.
